Are you getting tired of opening your fridge door and seeing half-empty bottles of sauce that are nearing their expiration date? Or maybe you love your favourite bottle of sauce so much that you are looking for some new ways to incorporate it into your favourite dishes?
As there is a wide variety of different ways to cook with your favorite gluten-free sauces, here is four of the best ways to get creative in the kitchen:
- Make a glaze
Did you know that tomato sauce tastes amazing when used in a glaze? There are many different ways to make a glaze, but this Japanese-inspired glaze tastes incredible!
What you will need:
- Dry sherry x 2 teaspoons
- Gluten-free tomato sauce x ¼ cup
- Lemon juice (fresh) x 1 tablespoon
- Japanese sesame oil x ½ teaspoon
- Organic soy sauce x 2 tablespoons
How to make it:
Simply grab a small bowl and add in the organic soy sauce, gluten-free tomato sauce, dry sherry, Japanese sesame oil and fresh lemon juice. With a fork, stir the ingredients together until it forms a smooth texture and is completely combined. The glaze is now done – it’s that easy!
You can brush this glaze over ingredients when frying such as salmon, mushrooms and tofu to create a sticky glaze that completely coats the food and tastes incredibly delicious!
- Make a salad dressing
There are a variety of salad dressings that use tomato sauce such as Thousand Island dressing and Russian dressing. However, if you enjoy a bit of a spicy kick to your food, then here is a Russian dressing recipe you have to try!
What you will need:
- Gluten-free tomato sauce x ¼ cup
- Hot sauce x 1 teaspoon
- Salt x a pinch
- Mayonnaise x 1 cup
- Worcestershire sauce x 1 teaspoon
- Small white onion (finely diced) x 1 tablespoon
- Horseradish x 4 teaspoons
- Sweet paprika x ¼ teaspoon
How to make it:
Grab a mortar and pestle or a blender and mash/combine the onion into a paste. Alternatively, depending on your knife skills, you can very finely dice the onion until it resembles a paste-like texture.
Pour the onion paste into a small bowl and add in the sweet paprika, horseradish, mayonnaise, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt and gluten-free tomato sauce. Give it a good whisk until all the ingredients have completely combined together. You can also store it in the fridge for up to two weeks in an airtight container.
- Make pulled pork
Gluten-free sauces such as BBQ sauce are perfect for making scrumptious dishes like pulled pork. Whether you are preparing a dish in advance or don’t want to go all out when cooking, here is an easy BBQ pulled pork recipe using only a few ingredients that will still taste just as delicious!
What you will need:
- Boneless pork loin x 900 grams
- Gluten-free barbeque sauce x 1 bottle
- Water (as needed)
How to make it:
Put the pork loin into a slow cooker and add in enough water so that the bottom of the slow cooker is completely covered. Now turn on the heat to low and cook for around seven hours until the meat is completely tender and soft.
When is it done cooking, transfer the pork onto a plate. Grab two forks and begin shredding the pork. Transfer the shredded pork back into the slow cooker and add in the gluten-free BBQ sauce. Stir through until the pork is completely coated in the BBQ sauce and then finish cooking on a low heat setting for another hour. It’s that simple!
- Make a BBQ baked beans
There are hundreds of recipes out there, but if you are looking for a quicker and easier version of BBQ baked beans then here is a delicious recipe that features a kick of chilli.
What you will need:
- Baked beans x 1 can
- White wine vinegar x 1 tablespoon
- Mustard powder x 1 teaspoon
- Brown sugar x 1 tablespoon
- Tabasco sauce x 1 teaspoon
- Gluten-free BBQ sauce x 1 cup
- Smoked paprika x 1 teaspoon
- Hot sauce x 2 tablespoons
How to make it:
Grab a pot or saucepan and put over a medium to low heat. Simply add in the tin of baked beans, brown sugar, smoked paprika, mustard powder, hot sauce, white wine vinegar, gluten-free BBQ sauce and tabasco sauce. You can substitute BBQ sauce for any of your favourite gluten-free sauces if you prefer.
Stir through until all the ingredients are mixed and let it simmer for five minutes while stirring occasionally. You can serve with a garnish of parsley and it goes great on top of some buttered gluten-free toast!
