A facelift is designed to rejuvenate the face and give it a much younger look. However, partnering up with a respected cosmetic surgeon isn’t all you can do to ensure you get the ultimate results from your procedure!
There are a wealth of things you can do to ensure your facelift continues to be a great success even months after your successful procedure.
Run with these tips to ensure your face’s skin stays smooth and healthy even after your procedure.
1. Go for a healthy diet
Sure, there are plenty of skincare regimens out there that guarantee smooth and healthy skin, but nothing is more important for our skin than what we eat. Think about it: aren’t skincare routines essentially aesthetic treatments that don’t get to the point of why we need to perform them?
Great skin starts from within, and nothing will be better for your skin in the post-facelift period than adopting a healthy diet. Be sure to eat plenty of foods that are in vitamin E, zinc, and antioxidants, including everything from salmon to seafood, avocado and tomatoes, as well as all the other regulars like leafy greens and healthy fats.
The great thing about these foods is that they often work in unison to create deliciously healthy meals (did someone say grilled salmon with avo salsa? Drool!).
2. Don’t revert to smoking!
Your surgeon will strongly suggest that you give up the smokes pre-facelift (it’s not worth going into why – we all know they’re bad for us!). But, if possible, it’s also strongly advised that you stay away from them even in the months after your facelift.
Certain skin resurfacing treatments should only be performed by a board certified cosmetic surgeon. These include deep chemical peels and certain ablative laser treatments. Other treatments, such as microneedling, light peels, and microdermabrasion, can be safely and effectively performed by a highly trained registered nurse or licensed aesthetician.
Look, smoking is bad for the skin: it’s full of harmful chemicals and toxins that age us way before our time. Smokers know this; non-smokers know this – so do your best not to go back to that nasty vice after your facelift!
3. Take your time to take it easy
Any cosmetic surgery is akin to any health-focused surgery – it comes with a period of downtime in order to achieve the best results. You are going to need to take it easy for a while after your facelift and this includes avoiding any unwanted stresses that could impede on your recovery.
In the immediate days following your surgery you will require someone to take you home, help with groceries/meals and take care of the chores that you would normally take care of yourself.
But the rest doesn’t end there: you will want to remember to take some of your time in the months after your surgery – it’s part of getting the absolute best results.
4. Watch out for the sun!
Sun protection is an imperative of Australian weather but is even more so vital in the months after a facelift. Your skin will be extremely sensitive and cannot risk being burnt by the harshest summer rays, so your surgeon will advise that you take sun care very seriously after your procedure.
Be sure to wear a wide-brimmed hat when you go out, perhaps wear large glasses and be sure to use some of that good quality, high SPF sunscreen when it is time to get back into the sun!
It’s all part of the process
These are all just things you can do to protect your skin, and health, in general, so they should always be a priority regardless of whether you’re receiving a facelift or not!
But, on the occasion of receiving a facelift, you should most certainly follow the above pieces of advice…
